Book Review: Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna

I had read a few of Twinkle Khanna ‘s column and her second book before I picked up her debut work – Mrs Funnybones. To be honest, I was not impressed by her second book but my readers urged me not to dismiss her before reading her first book so I decided to pick a copy and I am glad I did.

Twinkle Khanna in the very beginning of the book clarifies that this book is not an autobiography ( apart from the fact that she can act :p) and that she is a run of the mill daughter with an annoying mother, wife to a doting and busy husband, daughter-in-law to a overprotective Punjabi mother-in-law, mother to a more mature than his son age and an inquisitive daughter. In short, she’ll tell you how her life is not all rosy and pretty which is pretty much what we expect from the life of a star-wife and its  more about what it is like to be a modern working women in our Indian society.

If I have to describe this book in one word, it will be hilarious. Mrs Funnybones is downright funny and not because the author is making jokes but just because she is pointing out some really hilarious things we all see or do in our day-to-day life in her ever so witty self.

There are 26 chapters in the book that follow an A-Z sort of format with each chapter telling you about something in her life. The book doesn’t seem to long and its more of a read in one go kind of a book because to be honest once you start reading it, you stop feeling that I am reading a “celeb’s” outlook towards her life but more like chit-chatting about the general “girly” issues  as people tend to coin them. More than often I found myself giggling, laughing or saying “Amen, sister”.

Overall, I have simply loved this book . It’s downright funny, keeps you entertained and its full of events and moments that you can relate to. To be honest, I did not have much expectation from this book considering her second book was kind of okay but Mrs Funnybones did prove me wrong. If you haven’t read it yet, I would suggest buying a copy as soon as you can!
