Cherries and Skincare

Never judge a book by its cover and never judge the effect an item from your kitchen could have on your skin no matter how teeny-tiny it is in size. A classic example of this theory is the cute little fruit called cherry. This delicious fruit has various skin benefits because it is loaded with vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, zinc, iron, copper, and manganese. Here are a few my favorite cherry based skin care DIYs:

  • Mash 5 – 6 cherries and 3 – 4 strawberries together. Apply on a clean cleans face and neck and leave for 10 minutes after which you can clean your face with cold water. Both cherries and strawberries have high level anti-oxidants as compared to most of the other fruits so this pack helps in getting rid of free radicals that are one of the major reasons behind skin ageing.

  • Exfoliation is an essential practice during monsoon and one of my favorite exfoliating face packs include cherries with oatmeal. Soak oatmeal in a mixture of cherry juice and rose-water to get a paste like consistency. Cherries are rich in anti-inflammatory properties. Apply this paste and let it dry for 5 minutes post which you can remove it while gently massaging your skin. Oatmeal helps in getting rid of dead skin while cherries have anti-inflammatory properties which soothe the exfoliated skin.

  • Yogurt is chock-full of nutrients which are essential in rejuvenating your skin so the combination of cherries and yogurt gives you radiant skin. Mix yogurt and pitted cherries to get a fine paste. Apply this mask and leave it for 10 minutes. Remove the face mask by washing your face using cold water.

  • Cherries is loaded with vitamins and minerals that helps in oil control. I have a combination oily skin and one of the best face packs that work for my skin type is cherries with egg whites. Take egg white from one egg in a container and mix it well until it becomes a little fluffy. Add one teaspoon honey and add mashed cherries to it. Mix all the ingredients together to make a paste and apply it on a clean face. Once the face pack dries up, remove it using lukewarm water but the last wash should be with cold water to close the pores.

  • The vitamin A and C in in cherries help in acne control and prevention but when you mix lemon into this equation then not only do you get unblemished skin but also a brighter one. Add lemon juice to mashed cherries in a bowl and mix them together to a paste like consistency. Apply this paste on your face, let it sit for 20 minutes and then wash your face with cold water.

  • This is such a tempting face pack because it has two of my favorite ingredients – Chocolate and Cherries.  Mix together ½ cup of plain Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and 8-10 cherries to create a paste. Apply the mask onto your face, leave on for around 15 minutes and rinse well with cold water. This pack helps to give you a glow and the amazing fragrance of chocolate and cherries is a bonus

The only word of caution while trying out these masks will be that Cherry stains so make sure you are wearing something old and dispensable when you are applying this to avoid any extra laundry effort.

Don’t forget to let me know if you try any of these masks and if you have any DIYs using cherries, then leave them in the comment section 🙂
