Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation: Review & Swatches

We are all looking for that no makeup natural look and most f the videos showing how to achieve that look talk about powder foundation. The thing with powder foundation is that they are usually pretty expensive so I was pretty happy to see that Lakme launched the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation recently. I have been trying these for almost 2 months now and I am going to tell you all about my experience today

Price: Rs 600 for 9 gms

Packaging

The Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation comes in a beautiful rose gold pan packaging. It has a mirror and separate compartment below the powder pan that houses the applicator. I really like the fact that there is a separate section for the applicator as usually, you don’t see this in drugstore product packaging. Also, it just helps in keeping the applicator away from the product that reduces wastage. My only concern is that the packaging is plastic and a bit flimsy so you have to be careful with it as one drop could result in the whole powder splitting into pieces.

Texture

The texture of the powder is very smooth because it is very finely milled. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin and blends easily so you do not have to worry about the powder just sitting on your skin or clinging to dry patches. The texture helps to get a nice even finish and it doesn’t get cakey even if you layer it.

Shade Selection

The Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation is available in 6 shades: Rose Silk, Ivory Cream, Silky Golden, Natural Light, Honey Dew and Natural Almond. The company shared 3 shades from this range with me – Ivory Cream, Silky Golden, and Honey Dew out of which, Ivory Cream was my closest match. It is a lighter for me but it will be the perfect shade once I get rid of the slight summer tan I have. For reference, I am an NC 41 and the other two shades, Silky Golden and Honey Dew were pretty dark for me.

My Experience

It is never easy to find a good foundation for a combination skin type and I was not very hopeful that the foundation would work but I was wrong. I have a few stubborn acne marks on my cheeks that need a little additional help to cover up but other than that this foundation gives me a decent coverage for the rest of the face. The staying power is pretty decent and I see no fading or oiliness for around 3-4 hours on a normal day and around 2 hours on a hot or humid day.

Final Verdict

Overall, I really like the product and it does what it claims. It feels light weight on my skin, gives me a decent coverage and stays on me for a good couple of hours. Definitely a good option for daily wear or occasions on which you don’t need too much coverage but just that natural “no-makeup” kind of look.
