Lakme 9 to 5 Lip Color – Red Chaos: Review and Swatches

I went on this huge makeup shopping spree this month and one brand that really caught my attention was Lakme. I had to spend a good amount of time at the Lakme counter because Lakme has come up with alot of really cool stuff  this year….but more on that later because today I am going to talk about the new shades that Lakme has launched in their 9 to 5 range.

Having learnt my lesson from the Revlon Colorstay Suede Lipsticks…I just picked one shade- Red Chaos to test the quality. Want to know how it turned out to be…well read on 🙂
Price: Rs. 400 for 3 gms.
Lakme 9 to 5 lipsticks comes in this really chic rose gold packaging. I love how the packaging is all girly and pretty. I have been carrying it around all week and I haven’t faced any issue with it so its safe to say that the packaging is reliable.

The texture is definitely smooth but not as creamy as I would have liked them to be. I have tried a couple of matte lipstick that appear creamy initially and then the finish turns matte but these lipstick give you matte finish from the beginning itself so its essential that you wear lip balm before you apply it.
The good thing about these lipsticks is that even though they have matte finish they do not dry out the lips. Having said that if you have dry chapped lips , it is better to scrub and moisturize  before you apply these lipsticks other wise the matte texture is going to highlight it.
The shade that I got is Red Chaos. I think companies need to ensure that the people who name the lipstick go through a color blindness test because when I was swatching the shades at the counter, I never imagined that this lovely brownish peach shade that I was looking at is be called Red Chaos….. like seriously is brown the new red :p. Nonetheless, its a beautiful peachy shade that would suit fair to medium skin tones. The fact that there are no shimmer particles in it makes it perfect to wear to work or when you planning to wear some thing heavy on the eyes.

The pigmentation is mind blowing. I have to be honest, I had not expected such an amazing pigmentation from Lakme but I am really happy and pleasantly surprised. The staying power is another big plus. The lipstick stayed on me for around 6-7 hours including meals.  Even when the lipstick faded it left a slight tint behind. The lipstick does not transfer, it doesn’t bleed or I did not notice any feathering at any point of the day and yes it did not turn flaky too :D.
The good things about it:
  • Really cute, girly and sturdy packaging
  • Smooth texture
  • Amazing pigmentation
  • 6 hr + staying power
  • Does not transfer
  • Does not bleed
  •  No feathering
  • Does not turn flaky
  • Pocket friendly price
  • Easily available
The not so good things:
  • Will highlight dry patches and chapped lips
I love these lipsticks. I am eyeing a couple of other shades now.  Go for them if you hate touching up every now and then….they might not last from 9 to 5 but they last pretty long 🙂
Have you tried the Lakme 9 to 5 lipsticks?
