MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation: Review & FOTD

I can’t even count the number of times I leave the house looking all cute and pretty with my skin looking flawless and 1 hour later I look like I am carrying an oil mine on my face. Finding the right foundation for oily combination skin is a tricky business…why…because…
One…It must be light so that it doesn’t clog the pores
Two…must have the right balance in terms of  moisturising properties so that normal parts of the face don’t feel too dry and the oily parts don’t feel too heavy
Three…has to provide medium to heavy coverage…to hide the acne scars which are kind of a common feature of people struggling with oily skin
And finally must have great staying power so that it doesn’t slip of the oily skin
I always refer to this checklist when I am looking for a foundation and so far the only foundation that has checks all the items this tiny but very important list is the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation.

Price: Rs 1800 ( I thought the SA was kidding about the price the first time I picked this up :p)
The MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation comes in a transparent glass bottle with a black screw-on cap. MAC does offer a pump dispenser with it but you have to pay extra for it and I was certainly not in a mood to do so as I was already spending quite an amount on this one. Even though the package is sturdy, I have to say I am not a fan. I have a tendency to drop stuff and well if I drop the packaging this foundation comes in then obviously my 2100 would go in the dustbin. Also, without the pump you do end up with a mess when you try to take out the product as well as the whole cap gets has product inside it. I wish the company had included the pump in the original packaging instead of making us pay more to buy it :/.

Shade selection is not really an area where MAC will disappoint you. The shade that I got is NC 41 and it matches to my skin tone to the tee. The consistency of this foundation is pretty thick however its quite runny texture wise. Pigmentation is great and the foundation gives you medium to high coverage. However, it takes a lot of effort to blend it so I would advise  you to build up the overage layer by layer.

Unlike what the company claims, the finish is not really matte but you can say it has a semi matte almost dewy finish. For the absolute matte finish, you need to set the foundation with your favourite compact or loose powder.

Staying power is around 6-7 hours. However the oil control factor only lasts for around 4-5 hours or so. Even though the foundation has SPF 15, it photographs pretty well and you don’t see a whitish cast. The thing that I love the most about this foundation is no matter how much you sweat or however humid it is…the foundation refuses to melt….It fades a little but nothing that you can’t manage with a little touch up πŸ™‚

Here is how it looks on me πŸ™‚

All in all, this is by far the best foundation I have used for oily skin. I do plan to try MAC Pro Long Wear( Thanks Shweta for the suggestion πŸ™‚ ), Clinique and Bobby Brown but till I do that…I think I am going to get another bottle of this one considering wedding season and dancing in the baraat is right around the corner. I just wish the packaging was a little different…its very accident prone and a little messy to use…apart from these two things I don’t think I have any other complaints from this product. If you have an oily skin and you are looking for a great foundation that gives you a decent finish…then this will be one of my top recommendations πŸ™‚
