Maybelline Colossal Kajal Turquoise comes in the same yellow twist up packaging as the Maybelline Colossal Black Kajal. The only difference between the two packaging is the bright turquoise strip at the bottom. Quality wise its pretty sturdy and the cap doesn’t come off easily reducing the chances of accidents so I don’t think I have any complains.
Coming to the shade of the Kajal…well as the name suggest…its a bright turquoise shade with a glossy finish and some very teeny tiny shimmer particles. I absolutely love the brightness of the shade as it instantly brighten up my eyes and I loved wearing it during summers and plan to do the same to counter the dull and gloomy monsoons :).
Texture wise this kajal is extremely soft and creamy and it just glides on your eyelids without any tugging or pulling. The texture I feel is a little too creamy as the kajal tends to break very easily so you have to be very careful during application.
The pigmentation however is a little on the weaker side and you need a couple of swipes for the actual color to show on application.
It definitely stands by its claim of being a smudge proof once you let it settle but I think the company went a little overboard with the staying power claim. The maximum time this kajal survived on my eyes is around 6-7 hours after which it starts fading. Having said that, for me 6 hours is a pretty decent staying time for a drugstore kajal so I won’t hold it against this product.
Removal of this kajal is a little bit of a task as the shimmer particles are a little stubborn so you either need a good eye make up remover or a couple of swipes of a cotton bud soaked in baby oil.
Lets take a quick look at the yays and nays:
Yays:
- Sturdy and simple packaging
- Color that instantly brightens up your eyes
- Creamy texture
- Glides on the eyelids without any tugging or pulling
- Smudge proof
- Decent staying power
- Budget friendly
- Easily available
Nays:
- Pigmentation is weak
- Kajal breaks very easily so you have to be careful during application
- Removal requires a little bit of an effort
All in all taking in account the price and the overall quality, the Maybelline Colossal Kajal is a decent option if you are looking for something to add a nice pop of color to your eyelids. I wish it didn’t break as often as it does but then considering I would have to let go of the creamy texture for that, I would rather prefer using it more carefully.
