NYX Matte Lipsticks in Summer Breeze: Review, Swatches and FOTD

Even though I was ecstatic when Sephora opened in my city, I would have to say my experience with them have been far from pleasant.  Their staff is rude and unprofessional, the counter never takes out the tags properly and as soon as I am leaving the exit sensors start beeping and what annoys me the most is that they don’t believe in re-stocking. I know it sounds lame to crib and then go back to the same place again but as they say beggars are not chooser…Sephora is still most convenient option to pick up brands like NYX, Soap & Glory, Benefit etc which are other wise only available to us after paying hefty shipping.

Surprisingly during my last trip, the NYX counter was unbelievably well stocked so I ended up picking alot of stuff from this brand. I have already reviewed the powder blush a few days back and today I am going to talk about the NYX Matte Lipstick in the shade Summer Breeze.

Price: Rs 530 for 4 gms

The packaging is a little different from the famous round lipsticks from this range. Its much sleeker and looks more pretty in my opinion. The lipstick comes in a black tube and has this transparent band in the middle that shows you the shade. I find the cap a little flimsy so I am always a little more careful with it when I carry it around.

The texture and formula, I don’t have any complains. It has a creamy finish initially which makes application a piece of cake and then after a few minutes it settles into a matte finish. With matte lipsticks there is always the fear of feathering and accentuation of the lines and dryness of the lips however if you make sure that moisturize your lips well before applying this lipstick, you won’t face any of these issues.

The shade Summer Breeze is an absolutely gorgeous pink. I would say that it looks like cotton candy in the tube however once you apply it you would notice that its not that bright. The shade is bright and has slight bluish skin tone so it might not work if your are the duskier side. I would say it would look great on anyone between NC 35 to 41.

NYX lipsticks are usually quite pigmented and these matte lipsticks keep up with reputation. You get a good opaque layer on your lips in a single swipe and you obviously build up the color according to your preference. These lipsticks don’t feel heavy on the lips so there is no need to hesitate to layer.

Staying power is pretty average. I drink an average of 3-4 cups of coffee every day, heavy meals and loads of snacks so there are rarely lipsticks that survive such an elaborate test. This lipstick stays in place for around 4 hours after which they start fading. A big issue I have with this lipstick is that when it fades, its doesn’t fade evenly so I have patches of color on my lips 🙁

Overall, I think these are decent lipsticks with a good quality and superb staying power. I definitely don’t think the shade Summer Breeze particulary would work for every Indian skin tone but yes its a gorgeous shade in itself. Personally, I love the shade but I do feel they are a little expensive if you compare them to Indian drugstore brands. The only reason I like NYX lipsticks is because you don’t really find a lot of choice when it comes to shades in other brands and this range itself has around 22 shades, I saw around 13 in Sephora so go and take at the other shades so go take a look at the other shades if you are interested.
