NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream In Antwerp: Review, Swatches and FOTD

If you follow me on snapchat ( Username: colorsandmylife) you would know I did a major NYX haul from Bangkok recently. We do have NYX in Sephora here in Delhi but the shelves are rarely restocked so to find a NYX store was really exciting for me. I had picked up NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream from Sephora once but to my horror the packed tube was completely dry and as Sephora India doesn’t replace products, all the money I paid for it went down the drain :(. Anyhow, at NYX Bangkok I was obviously able to swatch almost all the shades of the lip cream at the store but ended up picking the shade I had bought previously which is Antwerp.

Price: $6 for 6.5 gms.

The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream comes in a plastic tube packaging with a doe shaped applicator attached to the cap. You can see the shade from the outer packaging which is helpful to locate the shade if you have more than one of these babies but you can’t really see the quantity left. The applicator is decent and doesn’t give you any hassles during application. The tube is sleek so doesn’t take much space, cap stays in place and is plastic so easy to travel with.

Antwerp is this pretty pink with orange undertones. It is one of those colors that instantly lift up your mood but because it the pink has orange undertones, it tends to go towards a little bit of neon side of the coral pinkish color which might  wash out if you are on the duskier side. Otherwise it is a beautiful day wear shade which will work with the simplest to the fanciest of makeup looks.

The texture of the lip cream is similar to a light mousse so it glides over the lips in without any hassles. It is very creamy when you apply it but settles into a matte finish after a few minutes. It has a light texture but you have to be a little careful in layering it because it tends to get a little patchy if you don’t do it the right way…basically takes a little bit of a practice before you get it right.

You do need to work a little bit with your lips before you apply the product because the product has the tendency to accentuate fine lines and dryness after it settles. A little exfoliation and loads of lip balm will do the trick.

In terms of pigmentation, the lip cream doesn’t disappoint you. One swipe gives you a nice opaque layer of the color. You can build up the color if you want but as I mentioned before you need practice the layering exercise a bit before you get a smooth finish. Once the product settles into a matte finish, it doesn’t bleed or transfer .

Staying power is decent and the color only starts fading after like 4 hours leaving behind a soft pink tint. The only issue I have with this is that it doesn’t fade evenly and sometimes all that is left is the outline of your lips which I hate so I would suggest a quick touch up especially after a meal to avoid the ” I just lined my lips and did not fill them” situation.

Overall, I think the lip cream has a decent quality. I like how light they feel on my lips unlike some matte lipsticks that I have used. I do wish the staying power was a tad better but its decent and I do usually do touch ups in between the day so it is something I can work around. They have some amazing shades available but Antwerp is definitely a shade I loved the most. The product is definitely a favourite right now and I have been wearing it with a lot of my Indian outfits as well. If you are into matte lip products then I would suggest checking them out and to be honest they are quite a steal if you are able to buy it internationally.
