Revlon Photoready Kajal Intense Eye Liner/Brightener in Emerald Empire: Review & Swatches

Do you guys remember there was a phase 6-7 years back when everything was marketed under two in one strategy. Right from detergent, toothpaste to home appliances….everything was two in one….and lets not forget the fun jingles advertisements of these products used to have. Anyways when I noticed the Revlon Photoready Kajal Intense Eye Liner/ Brightener on the Revlon counter…I was instantly reminded of those times….two colors in a single pencil and then I gave out a big squeal because I saw that one of the shades Emerald Empire had a flesh toned end. I picked it up in an instant and today I am going review it πŸ™‚

Price: Rs 395
Packaging is very simple. Wooden body and dual ended….they are available in three shades. As I mentioned each pencil 2 shades – Emerald– true to its emerald green and Empire-a flesh toned color. The green of this pencil is a deep matte emerald green while the flesh toned color is a light beige with again a matte finish.

I love both the shades. The green is beautiful and deep…which works really well for the Indian skin tones.

Empire is why I bought this eye liner. Whites and beige shades if applied on the waterline, makes your eyes look bigger…however white looks a little out of place on our skin tones…beige on the other hand looks much more natural and opens up your eyes in a jiffy.

The texture is definitely not the softest or the smoothest but yes you don’t feel any tugging when you try to apply the liners. The color pay off for both the shades is great. Both the shades are quite pigmented and gives a gorgeous color in just one swipe.

Staying power of the two colors vary. While the green doesn’t stay for too longaround 2 hours… and starts smudging and fading, the flesh tone on the other hand remains in place for almost 4-5 hours on the waterline and because its a nude shade, you can’t really notice when it smudges.

Lets take a quick look at the Yays & Nays for this product

  • Simple packaging
  • Two shades in a single pencil
  • Both the shades are quite pigmented
  • Pocket friendly
  • Easily available
  • The texture could be a little more soft
  • Staying power of Emerald is disappointing
  • Emerald smudges
Overall, I do love the line. I obviously love empire a little more than emerald. Emerald is a beautiful color but because its starts smudging I prefer using it as a base for my smokey eyes rather than a liner itself.
