Tea for Two and a Piece of Cake: Book Review

Lately books with pretty covers have been catching my attention so the thought behind picking up this book was that it is a chic-lit with a lovely cover…. and that I had also heard some great things about the author Preeti Shenoy…though I had never read any of her other books.

Tea for two and a piece of cake is the story of plain jane
Nisha who had her happily ever after when she met and married Samir, a
handsome and wealthy guy. For Nisha, her life was perfect,  she had a whirlwind romance, got married, had
two kids but this perfect world comes crashing down when Samir abruptly ends
their 8 year marriage . Unlike most chick -lits which end at the happily ever
after…this book begins there.

The thing that I loved most about this book is that it
though the story feels familiar, the author has taken a rather unconventional
way of handling it. There is a sense of urgency in the book which I feel is a good thing because it gives the required pace to the story which
would otherwise would have fallen flat on its face.

The conversation, the whole setting of the story is quite
realistic and there is no over the top drama. Yes, the emotional turmoil inside
Nisha’s mind is highlighted by the author but there is nothing melodramatic
about those emotions which actually make it quite believable. Another
interesting fact about the book is that each chapter of the book is named after
a song, which I must admit is something that is quite unique.

Overall I think the book is definitely worth a read. Though
I do admit that the whole idea of finding love and once you do, making them stay
is a little stale, I still applaud the author’s effort to add a little twist to
it. It’s not one of those recycled love stories…there is an original element to
this book which is quite refreshing considering the fact how every metro read
available in the book stores feels the same and I am definitely going to read the other two books written by Preeti very soon.

Have you read any of Preeti Shenoy’s books?
